And I’m back! My apologies for the absence over the last couple of weeks. My family and I have spent a considerable amount of time traveling to see family, friends and get passports sorted out for our next trip. At the start of August we joined my parents on a trip Mpumalanga near the Kruger National Park. One of the things that I know that I am going to miss more than anything is the wildness of Africa and this trip was an opportunity to immerse ourselves in the bush for a week. There is so much that I could write about this week in the bush but I think it better that the photos do most of the talking. Afterall, this is a photoblog 🙂 Get ready for a couple of weeks worth of Wild Wednesdays!
This shot was taken at the end of our second day in the park. On a previous trip we came into contact with one of the breeding herds and I snatched a number of shots that I loved before almost being over-run by the herd. It was a magical experience. There is something humbling and awe-inspiring when you are surrounded by these magnificent creatures. We were not disappointed on this day. I spotted the herd on the banks of a dry riverbed headed in the direction of the road. To get into position I brought Mr Potato Head to a stop at a point just before where I thought the herd might cross. We waited and our patience paid off. This little guy was the first to cross and as he got to the far side of the road he seemed to turn and look at us and say, “Here’s looking at you!” Thanks Mr Sun for being low and in the background for this shot!
